Hunt Reservation and Deposit Policy

Reservations require a 50% deposit.  Balance is due 60 days prior to arrival. Your deposit must be received by the invoice due date to keep your reservation.  All payments are to be made by cash, check or electronic funds transfer.  Each party member must sign a release / acknowledgment of risk and acceptance of responsibility form.

Cancellation Policy

All payments are NON-REFUNDABLE unless client refills his/her canceled space by payment due dates. Client is responsible for purchasing his/her own trip cancellation and emergency medical evacuation insurance. If Montana Bird Hunts cancels your hunt then payments made to Montana Bird Hunts or Casey Phelps will be refunded.  There will be no refunds for no-shows, inclement weather or any unused portion of your hunt.

Break Action Gun Policy

We only allow break action guns on our hunts. Safety is our top priority. We hunt birds in a mixture of terrain and weather. We feel strongly that the safest way to hunt upland birds is with a reliable gun that can be broken open at any time to ensure the safety of the clients, guides, and dogs.

What's the best way to get there for my hunt?

Billings and Great Falls have the nearest commercial airports to Lewistown.  Bozeman and Billings, Montana have the nearest commercial airports to Big Timber. You can rent a car at the airport. Lewistown and Big Timber have airports for private planes.

Can I bring my own dogs?

You are welcome to bring your dog(s). If your party brings more than one dog then you will need to supply field transportation for your dogs.  Dogs are required to stay in a portable kennel while in your room. There is $15 per night per dog charge at The Judith Mountain Lodge. You will be asked to supply a credit card in case there are room damages.

Hazards your dog may encounter in the field include rattlesnakes, golden eagles, porcupines, badgers, wolverines, bobcats, lynx, mountain lions, black & grizzly bears, coyotes, wolves, skunks, raccoons, cactus, dehydration, fetid water, snares, barbed wire, spear grass, lightning and automobiles.

What do you do with the birds?

The guides clean and package the birds for travel, adhering to Montana state and federal laws. We can freeze them for you or keep them refrigerated. We recommend packing a soft sided cooler to transport your birds home for your consumption and enjoyment.

All the guides have lots of experience preparing wild birds for the table.

Do you offer fishing trips as well?

We offer guided trips on the Yellowstone River, Missouri River and small streams.  You may also fish on your own without a guide.

You can get more information on our Cast and Blast page.

What gear should I bring?

Some clothing you should bring: safety glasses, break-action shotgun, a soft gun case gun sock, shot shells, a foul weather jacket, rain pants and coat, briar proof pants or chaps for pheasant hunting, hat with a visor, leather field boots (Vibram™ or bobbed soled), sweater or wool shirt, sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen, water bottle, fluorescent orange cap or vest, wool socks, gloves and a game vest.

Waterproof boots are recommended during wet weather or when hunting ruffed grouse, snipe and pheasant in wet areas. We will be hunting between 3,500 and 6,000 feet so be prepared for occasional inclement weather.

Do you offer trip cancellation insurance and medivac insurance?

No. Clients are responsible for their own trip cancellation insurance & emergency medical evacuation.  Information is available on the internet.
